Game 1: Cueto RHP (3-4, 3.03 ERA) vs. O'Sullivan RHP (1-4, 4.81 ERA)
Game 2: Leake RHP (2-4, 4.66 ERA) vs. Hamels LHP (5-4, 2.91 ERA)
Game 3: DeSclafani RHP (3-4, 3.41 ERA) vs. TBD
The only Reds player to face O'Sullivan more than 3 times is none other than Marlon Byrd. 3-5 with 2 doubles and a HR.

WP - The last "plan" I remember Rube revealing was the plan to be competitive every year, you know, reload not rebuild.

Guys,
A 10-game losing streak, are you over or under?
I'm slightly over. What say you?
Posted by: Tal Venada | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 07:31 PM
Slightly under. Nine.
Posted by: GTown_Dave | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 07:32 PM
I enjoyed that tie for the 11 seconds that it lasted.

Its been a long journey but were finally here, Utleys average is now over .200!

I envy Chase Utley's average

G-Town:
That's for the whole season, not just now.
I'm at 11 or 12.

Sean O'Sullivan almost makes me miss KK.
Posted by: curt | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 08:17 PM
Kendrick's got a 6.55 ERA and 6.31 FIP. He leads the league in hits allowed, homeruns allowed, and HBPs. He's certainly better than O'Sullivan (or Jerome Williams, for that matter), but I can't say that I miss him.
Posted by: bay_area_phan | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 08:35 PM
I'll bet you all want to trade me now that I'm hittng.. losers
Posted by: Chase Utley | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 09:03 PM
No, but KK at least had the odd ability to dominate Atlanta. O'Sullivan has no redeeming characteristic.

Loved the CSN post game on O'Sullivan - "Well he didn't give up a 3-run HR tonight"
At least the broke the losing streak. All this team can do is avoid too much of an object of mockery or ineptitude.
Posted by: MG | Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 10:35 PM
Mockery or ineptitude don't bother me (and let's be real, ineptitude is a fact of life with this team already). I hope they lose enough games to get the first overall pick. The fact that they are picking only 10th this year is a disappointment. We need at least two more years of hitting on top picks to join Nola and Crawford as building blocks for the future.
A lot of people laughed at the Astros' rebuilding model. Seems to have worked out ok for them.
Posted by: Jack | Wednesday, June 03, 2015 at 09:40 AM
Philly is not Houston. A fanbase that sells out every game for 3 years straight to watch a winner, doesn't deserve an Astros-style 10 year rebuild. We have earned the right to demand a high-payroll Yankees/RedSox try-to-win-every-year rebuild. The destruction of the Phillies by Amaro-Montgomery & Co. has alienated an entire generation of fans, its the 90's all over again. I for one didn't like the 90's, and I don't see why anyone would want that.
Posted by: Howard Eskin | Wednesday, June 03, 2015 at 10:22 AM
curt's point about RAJ's "reload, not rebuild plan," is funny because it's true. Yet, here we are, and I have to say that I agree with Jack. We've reached the point where "reload" is not an option and RAJ's attempts to do so (via veteran contracts that have hamstrung the team to the inflexibility they're now in) have done much more harm than good. Yet, Howard Eskin also has a point, this isn't a fanbase like Houston or Miami who can tolerate extensive rebuild periods.
Net, if Saint Louis is "Baseball Heaven," Philly has quickly become "Baseball Purgatory." Thanks Rube!

The memories from the recent run are still fresh but if this team isn't revelant or competitive until the end of the decade yeah it will be a repeat.
Doubt that will happen though especially since Comcast will see some return on their tv contract and won't be content to let the ownership group field crappy teams with below average payrolls for the next several years either while they bankroll lots of cash annually.

We're not likely to watch back-to-back Phils games as fun as the last two have been for awhile.

Now if we can draft another player who can hit like Franco.

Amaro adds to his legacy of saying absolutely idiotic things.
Apparently, on yesterday's pre-game show, RAJ was asked if they would consider benching Utley to ensure that his $15M option doesn't vest. His response was that if they did that, there would be a grievance.
First of all, there is no way in the world that Utley would have a grievance if he were benched. To have a grievance, the team has to act in bad faith. Utley has a .644 OPS over the last calendar year & a rebuilding team could very legitimately say that they want to see what Cesar Hernandez can do. There would be no bad faith in benching Utley. At least there wouldn't have been until Amaro opened his big mouth on the air & admitted that they would be acting in bad faith if they benched him. What a moron. The team attorney must have been aghast when Amaro said that.

Hey kind of cool someone made something like this. Wonder if it will pick back up.
Posted by: johnnysanz3 | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 12:36 PM
BAP, did Rube really say that? Aside from all of the rightful comments you make about how it would be totally justified, simply making that comment now subjects the team to some sort of tampering suspicion, now that RAJ has voiced what's on his mind. Of all of the bad shit that goes on in RAJ's head, I actually think it's what makes it past whatever limited "filter" he has, that comes out of his mouth that may be his biggest detriment.
Posted by: Willard Preacher | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 03:34 PM
Also, you'll have to forgive me for a lack of compassion, but I find it hard to empathize with RAJ now acting as if he's the victim, having to wait out these bad contracts, WHEN HE IS THE ONE MOST RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BAD CONTRACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!
It seems that he keeps talking about how long and slow this "rebuild" will be when a, he stated he didn't need a full rebuild a few years ago (the whole "reload" comment) and b, he's the precise reason they're in the position of HAVING to do a full rebuild because of the shitty contract extensions he was tossing around like beads from a drunk frat guy at Mardi Gras. And it's not like those very signings weren't criticized by the very fanbase who Rube then rails against for "not getting it."
Seriously, if this guy continues to be employed in any capacity by this organization after his contract is up, while I'll blame an idiot ownership organization and Front Office, I'll probably more so have to blame any remaining fans who think that things are going to be any different.
Posted by: Willard Preacher | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 03:42 PM
Yet another in a long line of moronic contracts doled out by Ruben. I'm thrilled that he's going to have the rest of the season to further fuck things up before his own contract isn't extended.
Posted by: GTown_Dave | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 03:58 PM
In fairness, it was pointed out to me on TGP that the premise of the question put to him was, "Would you bench him to prevent the option from vesting?" He responded that this would be grounds for a grievance. I guess you could interpret his comments to mean, "If we benched him SOLELY to prevent the option from vesting, that would be grounds for a grievance."
Still, it's a stupid-ass thing to even insinuate. The team does have a duty to act in good faith when it comes to vesting options but, given the enormous discretion the team wields when it comes to lineup decisions, it would be well-nigh impossible for a player to ever prove bad faith. That's why, there has never been even a single grievance filed (let alone sustained) on the ground that the team acted in bad faith with regard to a vesting option. Amaro's comments give Utley's agent a potential opening. Now, if the Phillies ever do decide to bench Utley, thereby preventing his option from vesting, Utley's agent will be able to suggest that even Amaro, himself, has said this is bad faith.
Posted by: bay_area_phan | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 04:51 PM
It is a settled fact that if Rube's lips are moving he is saying something stupid, usually in connection with something stupid he has done. Ownership is unconcerned. And some still wonder why the franchise has a hammerlock on last place?
Posted by: curt | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 05:43 PM
I noticed Joc Pederson has a .999 OPS so far with 17 HRs in his rookie season. If Amaro had offered Lee for Pederson straight up 2 seasons ago, LA probably would've done that deal.

If I knew last nights lottery numbers I would be a millionaire
Posted by: Nostradamus | Thursday, June 04, 2015 at 06:54 PM
I'd suggest Harang should be dealt sooner rather than later, but Amaro is probably demanding some club's #1, #2 & #3 prospects in return.
